The way you describe on how to install java mods is incorrect. This is exactly what I mean. all about minecraft servers and minecraft in general

1. Cut or copy the jar files however, don't paste them yet. Open the folder for versions, and create a new folder. Copy the jar file to the folder you created 4. Paste the jar file into the folder again however this time with a different name. Open the jar file with notepad, copy the entire text and exit the file 6. Delete the copied file 7. Create a new file (most likely it will be a txt-file) and name it exactly as the jar file is called 8. Save the file with the same name as the jar files , as a.json. Open the json file with notpad and copy the next you copied 10. Launch the launcher and select the mod you "made

10,5. If this doesn't work, do these steps 11. Open the versions folder. Select the folder that you don't need. If the mod uses 1.7.10 you'll need find a folder that runs 1.7.10 minecraft version 12. Paste the jar file into the folde you selected and rename it exactly as the json file's name is 13. Start the launcher and choose the version you want to use.

If you can't find the folder then go back to the version folder then look after the last edited folder and rename it however you'd like. I suggest renaming the files in that folder exactly what the folder's name is.
