Minecraft on PC has always been available to download in two distinct versions known as the Java Edition and the Bedrock Edition. This will be changing on the 7th of June since both versions will be available to purchase on PCs.

You may be wondering what this means for you. It's just a tiny difference. A single purchase will include both versions of Minecraft in one package. This means that there's only one vanilla Minecraft version that is available on Windows. There's no need to fret if you already have Java or Bedrock editions. Mojang has announced that all players that have either Java Edition or Bedrock Edition will receive the edition they don't currently own , for free, and right from the Minecraft Launcher. However, this could take up to three working days for it to appear.

In the near future, Jave and Bedrock will remain distinct games with their own features. There haven't been any changes to the features. Only one difference is that you receive both versions automatically when you purchase Minecraft for Windows. Both versions are in the same launcher.

As a reminder, even though Java is available only on PC, Mac and Linux systems The Bedrock Edition is available on PC and mobile devices (Android, iOS, Windows 10 mobile ), and on various consoles like Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and many more. Java is the most flexible version of Minecraft on PC however it does not allow cross-platform play. Minecraft servers The Java Edition has a higher performance ceiling, tends to look better on gaming computers, while the Bedrock Edition is designed for more fluid gameplay and has shorter loading times.
