The director of "Rain Mana" - a great work of cinematography and a field for great actors - this time took the subject of human memories.

Barry Levinson touched on a difficult topic, but in a very subtle way. The picture tells about a childhood that turns into hell, but also how difficult it is to forget this period.

A somewhat hackneyed and schematic topic, but considered from an interesting side. We meet four boys who live carefree in New York. Due to one unfortunate situation their life turns into a hard fight. They end up in a reformatory, where they are treated cruelly. It is there that we meet one of the rangers (Kevin Bacon), who is the epitome of disgusting parenting methods and the satisfaction of humiliating little boys. Bacon undoubtedly coped with the role, provokes a feeling of disgust and aversion in the recipient, which does not work in his favor, but only proves that he is a good actor. The director, after the cruel images of the suffering of the boys in the reformatory, takes us into their adulthood, where we can observe what kind of people they have become. And yes, we find out that two of the boys lead a cold life of hired killers, full of cigarette smoke and cheap bars.

This is where the actual issue of the film begins, where two of these friends are brought to trial for killing the hated guard. Levinson's work is simply full of an excellent cast. The good-natured, but at the same time open-minded priest is played by the wonderful Robert De Niro, who in this film is a symbol of the boys' hope that one day they will be able to sleep peacefully. He is the reason that keeps them alive. You can clearly see the difference between a perfectly played priest and an equally well played guard. There are two visions of an adult man who can fundamentally help a child, and sometimes even destroy it.

Brad Pitt played the role of the prosecutor. Here, too, praise is deserved, as it is his character that keeps the whole film in suspense. Barry Levinson also uses the gem of the aforementioned "Rain man". I am referring to Dustin Hoffman, who plays the somewhat funny character of the alcoholic lawyer. However, not only the cast is an advantage to the movie. The issues raised in it are deeply hidden in the human psyche. The director shows that there are things that stay with you for life. At the same time, it proves that childhood has a huge impact on who we become in adulthood. The film also examines the issue of revenge from the moral side. Will revenge atone for the guilt of the perpetrators? Will anything change if we take revenge? This is the advantage of Levinson's painting - considering the problem from the moral and psychological point of view. The first part of the film is full of anxiety until it sheds tears on little boys. Unfortunately, something is missing in the second. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it, because it is a shocking film, and at the same time very real.
