Jessica Mauboy has revealed how long she and her husband Themeli Magripilis waited before getting intimate with each other.

The Australian singer, 34, gave an insight into her early romance with her long-time partner Themeli, who she tied the knot with in July 2022.

Appearing on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Friday, Jessica reflected on meeting Themeli when she was 18 years old and was asked by Kyle Sandilands about their early dates.

The radio host boldly asked her: 'Did you guys have sex the first night?'

Jessica replied that they didn't, but Kyle continued to grill her as he asked: 'How long did you make him wait it out?'

The former Voice Australia coach said: 'I think back, it's about a year,' as Kyle and Jackie 'O' Henderson voiced their shock over her confession.

Jessica went on: 'We just kept seeing each other in the town. Prior to that, I was like, I don't know you, I met this fella in a club. I started to see him everywhere after that moment.'

She also admitted Themeli had no idea who she was when they first met, despite rising to massive fame on Australian Idol just two years earlier.

She said: 'He was always out Bush, he was going hunting, he was definitely not into that. Which, to be honest, was like "you don't know me? You're the only person that I know that doesn't know me?'

Jessica sweetly added Themeli was her first ever boyfriend.

Kyle and Jackie then asked if she ever wonders what it would be like to have dated someone else.

'Yeah, when we're fighting! You know when you're like "pick the towel off the floor, online casinos by country clean up after yourself, do something!"' she jokingly replied.

Jessica recently revealed she almost split from Themeli while they were struggling with trying to maintain a long-distance relationship.

The pop star told The Daily Telegraph she and Themelli almost broke up after the pressures of maintaining a long-distance relationship wore them down.

Though they fortunately made it through the hard time, Jessica has reflected back on their near-split in the track Goodbye on her new album Yours Forever. 

'That song is about when we almost broke up. We were eight years in a long distance relationship and we felt really apart,' she began.

'We weren't doing things together, we weren't creating a future. But we would never say goodbye, we couldn't. We still always say see you later.

'Finally we worked out how to salvage our relationship and made the move together. Eight more years later, we're living this beautiful life together in Sydney.' 

Jessica added her husband was her inspiration when writing several tracks for the album, which will be released on Friday.
