More than ten years after its release, a rare early version of Minecraft was believed to have disappeared. Minecraft alpha 1.1.1 was released for the first Java Edition in September 2010 and was available for around three hours, but now it's been rediscovered by gaming historians.

Over the years, there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously gathered and archived a lot of them for preservation. However one particular version, called Alpha 1.1.1 or Seecret Saturday, was thought completely lost. It introduced fishing rods and the ability to sneak into Minecraft. However it was discovered to have a game-breaking bug which would make the screen completely gray. Mpservers Version 1.1.2 was released within hours. MULTIPLAYER SERVERS

The whole story of its discovery was shared on Twitter by user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who found the lost alpha. Luna clarifies that Alpha 1.1.1 was a meme that was common or holy treasure in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. No one believed they would find it.

Someone came across one of Luna's old tweets, and inquired about it, and she discovered an old backup of minecraft.jar dating the same day as Alpha 1.1.1's release date - September 18 October, 2010. Luna looked over the file and confirmed that it was indeed Alpha 1.1.1 which she later posted on Omniarchive - which blew up.

So I made a post in Omniarchive and it wouldn't be an understatement for me to say that some people noticed.

The reactions are enough to show how huge this find is. I literally start shaking.
